The Importance of Green Practices
Grady Pridgen, Inc.’s sustainable, green practices include mass transit, low impact design, zero-waste recycling, water conservation, sewer reduction and green products. Our investment in green, sustainable initiatives is based on the idea that by making a small investment today, we can ensure economic vitality for years to come. As important, this investment establishes a synergistic, beneficial relationship with local governments, environmentalists and neighborhoods where our employment centers are located.
We’ve adopted the philosophy of investing in a sustainable and superior quality of life. A life where one has more time to spend with family, friends and his/her community. Sometimes this means blending into our existing culture. Because we invest in redevelopment, our environments frequently spark economic recovery in an area. Sustainable, transit-oriented, mixed-use, live/work environments that allow one to live within walking distance of his or her workplace, restaurants, shops and recreational opportunities create a sustainable, healthier, happier quality of life.
Mixed-use properties are beneficial in their own right, but coupled with our green approach, they play a key role in building for the future. Living responsibly, with sensitivity to the surrounding environment, is essential to protecting and enhancing one’s quality of life. Using green design practices and conservation technologies, we reduce demand for water, sewer, garbage, power and natural resources. Through smart landscaping, we reduce water and fertilizer use, and add value to the entire community through the protection of our environment.
The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program is gaining recognition and value nationally. Florida also has the Florida Green Building Coalition, with a cadre of experts and its own uniquely Florida approach and certifications.
According to the USGBC, a 2% investment in green can provide up to 1,450% return in benefits for employers over 20 years. These benefits include reduced water, sewer, waste disposal, gas and electricity costs as well as improved productivity, improved health and reduced absenteeism.
Living green is simply smart planning today that helps us protect the future. It’s a long-term investment in our health, lifestyle, quality of life and environment.
